Class Descriptions:
Introduction to Lampworking: Glass bead making is an ancient art form that has experienced a great resurgance in the past several years. There are countless varieties of style, color and shape that combine to make beautiful and unique glass beads. In this workshop you will be introduced to the equiptment, tools, materials and techniques used to safely melt and form glass into glass beads. You will leave the class with your own beautiful beads and perhapse a dose of glass bead fever!
Beyond The Basic Bead: Surface Decoration: Endless design possibilities begin with a simple dot or line. Students will learn how to lay dots and lines on the surface of the bead as a basis of bead design and style. Learn how to melt and move the dots and lines into various patterns and designs. Creating and using multicolored rods of glass called "twisties" will also be covered. Prerequisite: Introduction to Lampworking
Beyond The Basic Bead: Beads Don't Have to be Round: Beads come in many shapes and sizes. In this class students will learn how to use tools and marvering techniques to shape glass into square, triangle, bi-cone, tube and tab shaped beads. Prerequisite: Introduction to Lampworking.
Beyond The Basic Bead: Adding Depth with Encasing: An encasement layer of clear glass adds depth and interest to the bead design. In this class students will learn various methods adding an encasing layer of glass to beads. Altering the look and design of the base bead through heat control and glass movement as well as how to add glass without altering the base design will be explored. Prerequisite: Introduction to Lampworking
Beyond The Basic Bead: Fun with Florals: Whether they are encased within the glass or elegantly placed on the surface of a bead, flowers are a beautiful addition to bead design. In this class, students will learn how to create beautiful "gardens under glass". Creating and using petal and vine cane to create beautiful surface flowers will also be covered. Prerequisite: Introduction to Lampworking, It is recommended that the encasing class be taken first.
Beyond the Basic Bead: Metal Inclusion: Glass not enough for you? Add metal to your lampwork beads! This class will cover tips and techniques for metal inclusion: (copper, gold, and silver - foil, frit and wire) in and on your lampwork beads. Prerequsite: Introduction to Lampworking, It is recommended that the encasing class be taken first.
Open Torch: Can't have a torch of your own? Use ours! If you have taken lampworking classes or any of our glass bead workshops, get some extra "torch time" and sharpen your skills! There is no formal instruction during open torch but I will be available for questions and pointers if desired. Must have taken the introduction class or have lampworking experience!
