Wampum on Sterling Cuff, Beach Gem Bracelet
Feb 29 2012Jordan had been collecting wampum shells for many years and hoped to have them placed in a cuff that he could wear from work to play. These white and purple buttons were made from the quahog, or Western North Atlantic hard-shelled clam. Each shell was given its shape and a rivet in the center for effect, then soldered to the sterling cuff which had been measured to fit Jordan beforehand. The first thought that came to Jordan's mind was that it was of Medieval times. I let him know that I envisioned King Neptune entering his sea cave to fetch not only his scepter but his cuff which had formed from seashells fossilized into the cave and removed and shaped to adorn his wrist. If you look closely you'll see the effects that might have been water traversing the surrounding silver "stone' for hundreds of years.
